What is it?
Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy produces a wide range of uses and benefits on psychological and physiological levels. Massage works on many levels and can be tailored to suit each individual to treat musculoskeletal problems including:
I’m not sporty… is it suitable for me?
Contrary to the name, Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy isn’t just for sportspeople. People from all walks of life can benefit from massage – muscular tension, stress and fatigue affects everyone, whether they have an active lifestyle or a sedentary desk job. Examples of how Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy can help you:
Corporate Office Workers – Stiff neck? Sore shoulders? Lower back pain? A buildup of tension and stress around the back, neck and shoulders can cause symptoms such as headaches, eye strain and fatigue. Sport & Remedial Massage can help to reduce stress, anxiety and decreased concentration that are common side effects from working prolonged hours in front of a computer. Deep tissue and acupressure techniques are used to address the ’hard to reach’ areas of tension around the shoulder blades and base of the skull. The result is improved circulation and posture, shortened muscles fibres are lengthened and pain relief. Michelle also ‘remedies’ her clients by advising on stretches, exercises and computer set-up. She believes in empowering her clients to take control of their own health and wellbeing.
Casual Gym Users – You may not necessarily like any sport, but appreciate that some physical activity in life is important. You regularly go to gym, may use weights/resistance machines or go to group exercise classes. The human body is not perfect, and everyone has idiosyncrasies within their body, this may be in the form of a slight ‘niggle’ or discomfort. Regular training may lead to further imbalance issues or an overuse injury. Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy seeks to address these minor soft tissue tension areas before they become more serious injuries.
Injury Rehabilitation – The ‘remedial’ part of Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy addresses both the causes and symptoms of injuries such as muscle sprains, joint strains, RSI (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow) and back/shoulder/knee pain. A combination of techniques such as massage, soft tissue release, stretching, strengthening exercises and rehabilitation advice are used to restore function, reduce pain, increase mobility and re-train muscles.
And if you are sporty, here’s how Sport & Remedial Massage can help you:
